The Skrull May Be The Villains In The Avengers Movie

I literally let out a slight nerd squee when I read this on Ain’t It Cool News. Apparently the rumor mill is a-churning that Joss Whedon has written in the Skrull race as the the main threat in the upcoming Avengers movie. This rumor appears to be the result of an Avenger’s teaser trailer currently being shot in which Loki, the main villain in the Thor movie, enlists the Skrull to attack Earth. This set my fanboy heart aflutter and the possibilities of how this would open up the overall Marvel Universe into the galactic realm it deserves is amazing. Here’s to hoping The Watcher is narrating the whole affair. I might just go and cry if it all comes together. (via Ain’t It Cool News)

P.S. I tried to explain the joy of this to my girlfriend and the stares I got back were priceless.

Apparently this artwork is from a canned spec series that would have followed Bruce Wayne in his high school exploits. The art style is quite interesting, but an emo Joker? Really? This seems to partly inspired by Teen Titans and Smallville and could have been an interesting show. The artists who were tasked with the development of the show, Celeste Green and Jeffrey Thomas, have posted these pics and some info on their blog. I love to see concept art for stuff like this and it’s even cooler when it’s failed projects that would otherwise never see the light of day. Here’s the pitch that they posted:

The Story Synopsis:
We all go through incredible changes as teenagers: growth spurts, bad skin, a sudden insatiable need to uphold justice and avenge your murdered parents…. Well, that is if you’re Bruce Wayne.
As if being a freshman at Gotham High wasn’t tough enough, Bruce’s insomnia and technological fascinations are taking their toll. Instead of spending his time studying, he has begun to obsess over an emerging personality trait: Batman. But under the watchful eye of his guardian and steward, Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce is forced to put his intelligence to good use: graduating high school. But given his classmates, can Bruce survive Gotham High?

Also, for today, Amazon has the complete Superman; The Animated Series for just $21. That’s a pretty good deal for a great show.

“Hot Chicks In Batman Shirts” Is The Collision Of A Pop Culture Icon And Emo Girls

Mary Louise Parker is just the tip of the iceberg in the set of pictures on the “Hot Chicks In Batman Shirts” Tumblr page. Of course the pics posted are somewhat NSFW so tread with caution. Also, as expected, the bar for t-shirts is set fairly low to include pretty much any piece of clothing, but really, how many shirt pics could fill up a page? (via NeoGAF)

The Walking Dead Get’s A Golden Globe Nomination So Let’s Celebrate With A Zombie Killing Montage

I love when zombies die. I get all warm and fuzzy inside. This video is filled with a bunch of great gore from the recently deceased first season o The Walking Dead on AMC. The show was so successful that it was renewed for a full second season after airing only two episodes. It was also announced today that it has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Drama Category for television. Congrats to the creators and especially Robert Kirkman who has helped to elevate the zombie genre to new intellectual heights. So enjoy the zombie brain bashing and watch the damn show if you haven’t yet. (via io9)

DC Comic’s Character Hoodies Border On Cool

I love to wear my nerd cred on my sleeve, sometimes my chest, or even in this case, my hood. I came across these beauties on Big Bad Toy Store as they are up for pre-order with an October release. The old school style of the characters is great and gives you that added throwback cred that everyone loves. I never actually read the DC comics as I was more of a Marvel kid but no one else needs to know that ‘cuz as long as wear these I at least look like I’m in the know. They are priced at a reasonable $39.99 and come in Joker, Batman, and Superman flavors. So head on over and get your reserve on.

AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Why Do You Do This To Me Internet!!

Apparently this is from an alternate Marvel Universe comic. WTF? Wolverine is a woman. How creepy is this? (Via io9)

Superman Saves A Family From Foreclosure

I always dream of this happening in my thrift store hunting, estate sale going lifestyle but I know it’s just a pipe-dream. Well apparently it actually did happen to a family in need. The family was on the verge of losing their home to foreclosure and strted to pack things up in preparation. They made their way to the basement and came across a stack of comic books of which one was the fabled first appearance of Superman. Any geek or nerd worth their salt would faint on the spot as Superman ushered in the age of superheroes which is why his first appearance is so valuable and important. It’s been appraised at $250,000 and will soon be up for auction so save your pennies and you too can buy a copy of superhero history. (Christ, 10 cents)(Via io9 originally ABC News)

Westboro Baptist Church Hates Comic Con

I’m not sure if everyone has heard of these fuckwads but they are pretty much the American Taliban. They believe that God’s Wrath is shown in troop and celebrity deaths and events like 9-11 and that homosexuals are morally corrupting the people of the United States. In fact they are normally known as the “God Hates Fags” people which should show their level of tolerance for people who want to choose how to live their lives peacefully. The reason I’m bringing up these shitheads is they have now turned their attention to nerds and geeks via San Diego Comic Con. They are planning to protest Comic Con because they believe that we social outcasts worship false idols. Well, hell yeah we do!! I bow to the alter of all things geeky. Here is the reasoning for the protest in their words from their website. I won’t bother linking to them though as they don’t deserve the hits.

“Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent – so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.”

Iron Baby Is The Newest Avenger

So this is a pretty cool video. I love that the baby talking is a bunch of cooing (especially when she first flies through the air). Check it out and enjoy it and have a great Memorial Day Weekend!!!!
