Funky NES Controller Lamp

I came across this monstrosity in my internet wanderings today. It’s up for pre-order on eStarland.com for a cool $77.95 with a March 23 release. I’m not really sure what the shade is made out of though it looks almost like a shag rug type material. The base looks a bit off too as it’s chrome or polished aluminum. I think a PVC gray, like the controller would have been a better choice, maybe as a powder coat. Ah well. The price is a bit crazy as all I really would want would be the shade.

Help Me Win $1000 Towards My New Sofa

Here’s a sneak peak of an awesome picture that should win us a $1000 dollars. Awhile back I posted about our new sofa that we had ordered. It came in early August and I’ve delayed updating you about it because I wanted to spring it on you when we were in the midst of a contest involving it. You see, the Sofa Co., which is where we bought it, have customers submit pics of their new piece of furniture in it’s natural habitat. That just so happens to be in our living room. These pictures are then entered into a voting contest on everyone’s favorite social network, Facebook. Anybody who is a member of Facebook can “Like” the Sofa Co.’s page (they don’t spam you). If you could please follow the link here and vote for ours (It’s The More The Merrier one) because that would be awesome. We could get a huge discount on our sofa and you also get to see the rest of the sneak peak picture up there (Starbuck, our cat, is just the tip of the iceberg). Thanks for checking it out and thanks to our amazing friend Rob who is the artist that photographed it and also did the Photoshopping. Thanks for reading!

What Could This Be?

It’s another package!

Well, it’s most definitely something related to Star Wars.

And there it is. In all of it’s amazing glory.

The packaging is pretty simple which is nice because I’m sure you’ll just want to tear it open.

Freed from his shackles ready to yell, “NOOOOOOO!”

He looks great from behind though he’s missing his cape. It’s also kinda sad he has no lightsaber.

Press his buttons to make him work.

“Heavy breathing, Heavy breathing”

For comparison’s sake.

Let’s go for a walk!

It lights up in Vader’s lightsaber red. All you gotta do is push down on his head.

Spider-Man Beaded Head Lamp Is Just The Right Amount Of Kitsch

“I like lamp.” No really, I like lamp. I saw this at a thrift store and it was just too stupid looking (and cheap) to pass up. It’s sort of like a bobble-head with the spring it sits on.  It also has that classic Ditko style head. It’s made of a bunch of plastic beads and the lines look hand drawn. I thought maybe it was a bit older as it was somewhat dirty, but with some internet Matlockery I found out it’s not all that rare. You can get a new one on Amazon if you’d like though the price-tag is a little steep. I guess it’s supposed to be a kid’s nightlight but I think it will fit right in with my man-toys. In the meantime check it out lit up.

New Mid-Century Modern Furniture Score

I love me some vintage scores, even when I don’t really have a place to put it at the moment.I came across this killer shelf/display case in the Eero Saarinen tulip chair style. It is in the same style as my re-done chair but has a much different vibe to it. Like I said, I need to figure out where it should go. My first instincts were a bar but we already have that covered as you can see behind the shelf in the pic. I will say that a forum member at NeoGAF have given me a killer idea that compiles my two recent Lego pickup’s and some black spray paint and glow in the dark stars. I’m not too sure that’s what will become of it but it’s a great start. I’ll give you an update once I’ve figured out where it goes.

Jim Morrison’s House For Sale, aaaannndddd…. I Just Squeed My Pants

Yes, you read me right. I squeed my pants, which I’m not even sure is possible but I did it anyways. I love Jim Morrison and The Doors. Their music is one of the inspirations that influenced my move to SoCal. The fact that I would be able to live in the home he shared with his one true love, Pam, and if I had $1,199,000 is just too fucking amazing. Oh well. I haven’t made my first million yet so it looks like I’ll miss out on this gorgeous home. At least I can still see pics of it and now I know which one it is when I drive on Laurel Canyon. It comes fully furnished with many a custom piece designed for just this house. It also has a secret shower in which The Lizard King wrote some of his songs. Enjoy the pics and if you do happen to buy it please invite me over for a looksie. I promise I’ll keep the squee in my pants. (via Apartment Therapy)

Giant Pixar Luxo Jr. Should Fit Nicely Into My Decor

I love posts like this because I can talk design and reference my favorite movie company and pop culture icon, Pixar. What’s great about this lamp is it’s absurd size yet it performs a great function as a versatile floor lamp. It was designed by George Carwardine for the lamp company Anglepoise. The price for one of these is an astronomical $3500 but can you really put a price on style? Our cats recently broke our beloved vintage floor lamp (may she rest in pieces),

so I’m of the frame of mind they should get a part time job and buy this one to replace it.

THE CULPRITS:

Get to it cats and in the meantime you folks can enjoy the great Pixar short, Luxo Jr.

Man Makes The Most Amazing Piece Of Furniture Ever

I just bought myself the most perfect coffee table. Until I saw this baby…

That’s right. It’s an NES coffee table. Automatically, yours and mine now completely suck. This thing is the supreme leader of coffee tables. I know what your thinking. So what it’s just a big wooden coffee table shaped like an NES. Well now you can cry.

Oh wait. What’s this? Your cartridge slot opens?

So wha..!?           OH MY GOD!        OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

That’s right the controller comes out of the cartridge slot. Now I know you’re asking yourself why in the hell does the controller come out of the cartridge slot. Get ready to have your minds blown:

holy shit. It’s a fully functioning NES emulator coffee table with a working controller. This guy, Matt, has now won the internetz for the day. Praise you Matt and all that you represent you nerdy bastard. (Via Kotaku)

Chromcraft Sculpta Chair On Craigslist

This is a little bit of a stretch in the pop culture department but I think I’m safely covered from the interior design aspect. This is striking piece of furniture that really makes a statement. It is  Chromcraft Sculpta chair with electric blue vinyl.  What I really love about it (besides the awesome blue color) is the aluminum base. It reminds me of the Starfleet Insignia from Star Trek.

In fact that is also why the listing caught my eye. The seller was kind enough to point out that these chairs were often used as set dressing for the original Star Trek series. Here is a screen grab I pulled from the famous episode “The Trouble With Tribbles”.

The price isn’t too bad at $350 which I’m sure could be talked down a bit and I would love to get this if we had the room. Here’s the link in case you wanted more info: Chromcraft Chair

Great Timelapse Video Of DIY Reupholstering

I’ve professed my love for interior design before and especially when there is a level of do-it-yourself involved. When I saw the video above I thought, “Wow, we just bought a sofa. Thank god.” I mean that looks like a ton of work and even though the finished product is nice to look at and the journey to get to it was probably really exciting that’s crazy. But good for them as they can now display their skills with pride. Via
