That right there is what is known as a “Jump The Shark” moment in comic book lore. The Venomsaurus Rex is a creature from the “Old Man Logan” storyline that took place in the monthly Wolverine series and just so happens to be a cross between a T-Rex and the Venom symbiote that plagued Spiderman. It ran as a mini-series and was a glimpse 50 years into the future after all of the superheroes were defeated by the supervillains. The reason I wanted to post this was that I had heard mention of the Venomsaurus Rex (yes, that sounds as cool as it looks) and immediately picked up the graphic novel of the story just based on that. I know it’s cheesy and over the top but the combination of the two creatures is the greatest idea ever. The idea of the Venom symbiote attaching itself to a T-Rex is straight out of the steroid fueled comic books of the 90′s and is obviously a general nod to the fact that Venom is a direct result of that time period and the cultural uprising of comic book themselves. Venom gave a much needed dose of crazy and machismo to a flagging industry and is an important character for helping to revive the industry. Obviously Mark Millar (the writer on Old Man Logan) saw that the teaming of the two would be the ultimate in bad-assery. What’s great is that Sideshow Collectibles has decided to reproduce a maquette of this awesome creature for the masses. The price is way out of my range but I can still marvel (hehe) at it’s ferocity. The only thing that approaches the coolness of this creature is Batman fighting a shark with a lightsaber:
That’s right shark, Batman doesn’t even need the fucking lightsaber to kill you but he knew it would be cooler this way.
